Abstract Pigmentary coloration can produce viewing angle-independent uniform colors via light absorption by chromophores. However, due to the limited diversity in changes of molecular configuration chromophores undergo color change, existing materials cannot a wide range visible with tunable saturation and transmittance. Herein, we propose novel strategy create highly We fabricated hydrogel poly (acrylamide- co -dopamine acrylamide) networks swollen Fe 3+ -containing glycerol/water which covalently crosslinked polyacrylamide backbone pendant catechols ensure that maintains very stable shape. Hydrogels containing adjustable catechol-Fe coordination bonds flexible light-interacting display based on complementary principle. The complexes dynamically switch between noncoordinated mono-, bis- tris-coordinated states harvest energy from specific wavelength across whole spectrum. Therefore, these hydrogels be yellow, green, blue, red, covering three primary colors. Moreover, transmittance flexibly manipulated simply adjusting content networks. versatility smart has been demonstrated through diverse applications, including optical filters for regulation colorimetric sensors detecting UV chemical vapors. This proposed provides universal color-switchable platform development multifunctional systems such as filters, sensors, detectors.
